Lewis & Clark Abate Member Meeting Minutes

November 4th, 2024

44 Members present. Pledge of Allegiance was held & Moment of Silence. 

Meeting began at 2 pm.

Treasurer - Des gave account balance. 175 total members. Please get a hold of one of the offices to get renewed. T-shirt orders came in and got picked up. Tickets have been picked up and paid for.

Pres. John started off with the second round of nominations for officers was announced. Pres - John H.; Vice Pres - Grant K. & Justin L.; Tres. - Dez M.; State Rep. Lenny. VFW Breakfast was a good turnout.

State Rep. - Alex had nothing from the state. Next state meeting is the 3rd Saturday of the month. He will have more information at the next meeting.

New Business

Final voting for new officers will be held on December 7th at the meeting. Positions are President, Vice President, Treasure and State Representative. 

Meat gift cards for $1000, $500 and $250 will be the raffle. 500 tickets at $20 per ticket. Please get a hold of Dez if you wish to sell them. 

December Potluck/Christmas Party after meeting on the 7th. Sign up sheet has been started.

Need new ideas for events for 2025.

October 5th, 2024

49 Members present. Pledge of Allegiance was held & Moment of Silence. Meeting began at 2:12 pm.

Treasurer - Des gave account balance. 174 total members. Please get a hold of one of the offices to get renewed. She mentioned if there was a different way for everyone to know when they are due to renew. But it came down to everyone needing to look at their card and it will tell them when dues are up. T-shirt orders will be placed this week. We have a couple of new rocker patches for sale and also have started a new order for more.

Vice Pres.- Shane talked about the Poker Run that was in September. We ended up raising $5033.00 for little miss Hazel and her family. Thank you everyone! End of season party was a hit! 36 members showed up and enjoyed the food and karaoke. The first round of nominations for officers was announced. Pres - John H.; Vice Pres - Grant K. & Justin L.; Tres. - Dez M.

State Rep. - Alex will be stepping down at the end of the year. Lenny Bennett has volunteered to take his place. So Lenny went to the state meeting and was informed that the new ABATE of South Dakota Website has been revamped. Please check it out! The state has also made it easier to vote on by laws. No more tabling items.

New Business

Second round of nominations will be held on November 2nd and voting for new officers will be held on December 7th at the meeting. Positions are President, Vice President, and Treasure.

Next raffle was discussed. Meat gift cards for $1000, $500 and $250 will be the raffle. 600 tickets at $20 per ticket. Motioned 1st by Chris and 2nd by Curt to sell them for 2 months with the drawing at the January 4th, 2025 meeting. VFW Breakfast is November 3rd. Still need more volunteers to help. December Potluck/Christmas Party after meeting on the 7th. Sign up sheet has been started. Angie & Dean brought up the D-Days Parade in Vermillion on October 12th. The entry for the parade has been paid. Looking for people to volunteer to ride in the parade. Meet at the Vermillion High School before 8am. If anyone is interested please contact them.

September 7th, 2024

49 Members present. Pledge of Allegiance was held & Moment of Silence. 

Meeting began at 2:07 pm.

Treasurer- Des gave account balance. 187 total members. We have 40+ members that need to renew. Please get a hold of one of the offices to get renewed.

Taking shirt orders until the October 5th meeting. We are also ordering extra black and white t-shirts to have on hand. And ordering more skinny can koozies and tall-boy can koozies.  We have a couple of new patches for sale and also have started a new order for more.

Pres.- John talked about the Poker Run for September 21st starts at Mojo’s. 11am Registration; 12pm Kickstands up. Poker Run route: Mojo’s; Utica Hall; Bottle Shop - Tyndall; The Dock - Springfield; Kozy’s Bar and return to Mojo’s. Best hand and 50/50 drawing will end the day. End of season party is planned for Saturday September 28th at Rock Bottom Event Center. The Center was donated for use. Along with Karaoke also donated. Agreed on having the Pulled Pork Meal. 5pm is a social hour; 6-7pm we eat; and karaoke is 7pm-?

Please let an officer know if you are interested in attending.

State Rep. - Alex mentioned the road hazard line has been canceled. They are trying to get something else setup. Also talked about being reimbursed for going to functions that are more than 1 day. Next State meeting is September 21st.

New Business

Had a request for some help. 12 year old Holden Cower has stage 2 cancer. His benefit is the same day as our poker run September 21st. All voted to donate $500 and to do a drive thru at Cottonwood to show our support for the young boy. If anyone would like to stop and give your own donation, please do.

Next raffle was discussed. A meat bundle was motioned 1st by Dean K. and 2nd by Mike K. to have 3 drawings for gift cards to different lockers. $1000, $500 and $250. $20 tickets and 500 tickets to sell. More will be discussed at the October 5th meeting.

Next year's poker run in September may be changed to a different weekend instead of the 3rd weekend. Alex will have the state schedule in January so we can decide what the new date in September will be.
